Understanding the upgrade.
Windows Server IoT 2022 is now generally available. What sets it apart from the earlier version, Windows Server IoT 2019?
Look into our wide selection of Windows licenses for embedded devices or read more to learn about the features we’re most excited about in Windows Server IoT 2022.
Protect devices with increased security measures
Keeping intelligent devices secure is an important part of any operation, which is why Windows Server IoT 2022 comes with innovative security features. Most notably, Windows Server IoT 2022 offers secured connectivity, which allows for faster transfers, industry-standard encryption, and a more secure encrypted hypertext transfer protocol secure (HTTPS). Windows Server IoT 2022 also allows encryption on SMB Direct, which supplies a low latency network to several storage workloads, including Storage Spaces Direct and SQL Server.
Windows Server IoT 2022 also offers increased hardware security options with its secured-core server. This secured-core helps provide hardware root-of-trust through Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM 2.0) chips. It also provides firmware protection.
By providing increased security measures, Windows Server IoT 2022 helps OEMs provide customers with intelligent devices that meet industry standards.
Tap into more options with hybrid and scalable opportunities
Part of the future of digital transformation is an operating system that allows you greater development freedom. For example, Windows Server IoT 2022 is built with Azure hybrid capabilities, allowing users to create and run Azure virtual machines for programs like Windows Admin Center and Azure Automanage.
Windows Server IoT 2022 also includes upgrades to application containers, like increasing application compatibility and reducing the image size to ensure faster runtime. These upgrades provide greater flexibility and easier scalability for OEMs looking to build customers long-term intelligent devices.
Find the right version for you with the new licensing model
Unlike Windows Server 2022, which isn’t designed for fixed function intelligent devices, Windows IoT Server 2022 has five different licensing options based on the device distribution.
Application | Editions |
A dedicated server with Active Directory integration (file, print, networking services) or those requiring a connected keyboard, monitor or mouse to perform its dedicated purpose. | Windows Server IoT 2022 Standard |
A turnkey solution for highly virtualized datacenters or cloud environments that can consolidate several complex functions into a single server appliance. The solution may require Storage Spaces Direct. | Windows Server IoT 2022 Datacenter |
A dedicated file server appropriate for Network Attached Storage, Storage Area Network Gateway or another storage solution. | Windows Server IoT 2022 Storage Standard |
A small storage solution (for 50 users or less) that does NOT require network infrastructure services (file, print, etc…) or a connected keyboard, monitor or mouse. | Windows Server IoT 2022 Storage Workgroup |
A specialized telecommunications application such as PBX, IP PBX, Automated Attendant, Interactive Voice Response (IVR) or teleconferencing. | Windows Server IoT 2022 Telecommunications |
