Ralph C. Derrickson

President and CEO

Ralph C. Derrickson joined Bsquare in March 2019 as president, CEO, and board member. Ralph is a highly accomplished business leader with a wide range of experience using technology to create innovative products, services and business models. Prior to joining Bsquare, Ralph was president and CEO of Carena, a pioneer in the development of virtual health care delivery until its acquisition by Avizia in 2017. Ralph served as SVP of Corporate Development until Avizia’s acquisition by American Well in July 2018. Prior to Carena, Ralph was managing director of venture investments at Vulcan Capital where he was actively involved in the investment, growth and operations of the firm’s technology portfolio companies. Ralph has served for 15 years on the board of Perficient (PRFT), an IT services firm with expertise in e-commerce digital transformation. Ralph has senior leadership experience at Metricom, Starwave Corporation (acquired by Walt Disney), and NeXT Computer (acquired by Apple Computer). He began his career as a software engineer at Digital Research and Sun Microsystems.

Ralph serves on the dean’s advisory board of the Golisano College of Computing & Information Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he earned a BT in Systems Software. He also serves on the advisory board for the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, in the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.

Peter Biere

Chief Financial Officer

Peter Biere is our Chief Financial Officer, having joined Bsquare in December of 2016. Peter is an operationally focused senior financial executive with a track record of building value in middle market, emerging growth and early stage private and public companies. Prior to Bsquare, Peter was the CFO of two NASDAQ listed companies, Zones (now private) and Lumera (now GigPeak). His technology industry expertise includes R&D and services as well as software and software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies with leadership experience including business formation, cash management, multiple-stage capital funding, business support systems, teambuilding, exit strategies including IPO and M&A, SEC reporting, SOX implementation and compliance as well as performing interim CEO, COO and general management assignments. Peter earned his BBA and MA in Accounting from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

John Patrick Luethe

Vice President of Product Management

John Luethe is our Vice President of Products, having joined Bsquare in January 2017. Prior to Bsquare, John was the Delivery Leader at IBM Bluebox. John Spent the first 10 years of his career at Accenture, launching products and services for large multi-national companies. John earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Washington.

Mary Haggard

Vice President of Strategic Partnerships

Mary is responsible for managing our strategic partnerships. Prior to Bsquare, Mary created and ran a digital health incubator that created companies that sold solutions to multiple health systems.

At Amazon, Mary managed partnerships with Amazon’s largest partner retailers (Macy’s, JCPenney, Sears, etc).  She doubled partner sales over an 18 month period, turned around stale partner relationships, and drove negotiation of new multi-year partner deals. She also created partnerships with Mattel, Fisher Price, Sony, and others to reduce costly plastic packaging and create the “frustration free” packaging program that is still growing on Amazon today.

At Microsoft, Mary managed developer partnerships and drove revenue growth for major media partners for the Windows/Internet Explorer product including early online work with ESPN, CNN, NYT, and others.

Steven Gottlieb

Interim Vice President of Marketing

Steven oversees marketing activities for Bsquare.

Over the course of his career, Steven Gottlieb has worked with a broad and diverse set of leaders and organizations- from Fortune 500 company heads to founders of emerging technologies companies; scientists working in the fields of materials science, energy storage, and vaccines; financiers of innovation and real estate; top administrators of health care systems and university presidents; artists and athletes; elected officials and government institutions; and global aid and health professionals.  Throughout his career, he has maintained a sharp focus on creating business impact through providing exceptional marketing and communications counsel and support as well as helping develop and maintain executive leadership reputation.

Earlier in his career, he held various positions at the Anti-Defamation League in Denver and San Diego, where he oversaw regional civil rights initiatives and managed public opinion on a variety of First Amendment issues.

Gottlieb received Highest Honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Society and Social Thought. His paper about the American Press during the Holocaust resides at the United States Holocaust Museum and Archives in Washington DC.

Mark Meuleman

Interim Vice President of Sales

At Bsquare, Mark leads our sales efforts.

In his work life, Mark Meuleman’s adrenaline flows into roles demanding new thinking, and redefining boundaries. This ability to learn, adapt and deliver in wildly varied businesses and verticals became clear in successive executive sales and business development roles at Nortel, NewBay, and BlackBerry. Happily, at Bsquare, this is an everyday occurrence where this way of working allows him to help clients across almost any vertical, startup through Fortune 500, whether building for the first time or adjusting for a future of solid revenue growth.

Mark holds an MBA from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business with a focus on entrepreneurship and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering focusing on telecommunications from the University of Victoria. He’s also part of Grow50, a group of premier Pacific Northwest services firms providing their time to help entrepreneurs determine how best to succeed with their business dreams. Mark’s 25-year marriage and strong family bonds deeply inspire his work and life. You’ll often find Mark competing locally in Cat 2 road bike races.

Andrew Harries

Executive Chairman

Andrew Harries has been a director since November 2012 and has served as the Chairman of the Board since July 2013. He was a co-founder of Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR), a NASDAQ-listed wireless IoT systems vendor, where he served as Sierra’s Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Operations. During his 11 years at Sierra Wireless the company grew from inception through IPO to over $200m in annual revenues. Subsequently Andrew co-founded Zeugma Systems Inc. where he served as the CEO from 2004 until its acquisition by Tellabs Inc. in 2010. He also chaired the board at Contractually, an enterprise SaaS contract management company, until its acquisition by Coupa Software in December 2015.

Andrew is currently the Tom Foord Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business and is an advisor to several private companies. He holds an MBA from Simon Fraser University.

Robert Chamberlain

Director

Robert Chamberlain has been a Director since August 2015 and serves as the Chairman of the Audit Committee. In October 2018, Mr. Chamberlain was named Chief Financial Officer of ZipWhip, a Seattle-based two-way business texting software company. Prior to this, he served as the CFO for Big Fish Games Incorporated, a leading provider of casual games from 2014 to present. From 2013 to 2014, Robert served as the Senior Vice President and CFO for Audience Science Incorporated, a leading provider of Enterprise Advertising Management Systems. Prior to serving in that capacity, he was Senior Vice President and CFO of PopCap Games Incorporated, another provider of casual gaming from 2009 to 2011. Robert served as CFO for WatchGuard Technologies Incorporated, a private global provider of firewall and UTM appliances from 2006 to 2009. He has a BS in Business Administration-Accounting from California State University Northridge.

Davin Cushman

Director

Davin Cushman has been a Director since November 2018. He is currently the CEO of Ignite Technologies and its affiliates, a set of enterprise software and services companies operating under the private ownership of ESW Capital. Davin is also the founder and President of Cushman Management Company, a boutique strategy consulting firm delivering executive committee and Board of Director level recommendations for the long-term, profitable operation of enterprise software companies.

Prior to taking these roles in 2010, Davin held operations analysis roles with Capital One Financial Corporation as well as leadership positions with enterprise software company Trilogy and its spin-off, pcOrder.com. He earned an AB in Politics from Princeton University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

Mary Jesse

Director

Mary Jesse has been a Director since August 2016. Mary is a technology executive, strategist, inventor, and pioneer in the wireless industry. She is currently the managing partner of Hexagon Blue LLC, a strategic business and technology consulting company. Her past roles include Chief Strategy Officer for VRstudios, founder and CEO of Ivycorp, co-founder and CTO of RadioFrame Networks, VP of Strategic Technology for McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc., and VP of Technology Development for AT&T Wireless.

Mary frequently speaks and writes on technology, diversity, business, and entrepreneurship. She currently serves on the business council for Western Governors University, and has served on boards for the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, University of Washington, Bothell, school of STEM, Northwest Entrepreneur Network, and Washington State University Electrical Engineering Department. She is a registered professional electrical engineer and is listed as inventor on 19 technology patents.

Rob Peters

Director

Rob Peters has been a Director since August 2018 and a Principal of Palogic Value Management, LP since co-founding the firm in January 2007. He serves as a portfolio manager with broad investment experience focused primarily on analyzing small and micro-cap equity securities. Rob began his career at Stephens Inc. as an investment banker responsible for the execution of various corporate finance transactions, primarily mergers and acquisitions. He received a Master of Science in Accounting and Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas Tech University.

Ryan Vardeman

Director

Ryan Vardeman has been a director since June 2018. He is the principal and co-founder of Palogic Value Management, LP. He has extensive corporate strategy, operating, financial, and investment experience – the last of which includes analyzing all parts of the capital structure, including a focus on small-cap equities, and investing in a broad range of industries with an emphasis on technology and software companies. Ryan earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Texas Tech University and an MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University.
